Marcos De Abreu Avila

Profile:Associate Professor at Universidade Federal do ABC (UFABC). Obtained B.Sc., M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Physics from Universidade Estadual de Campinas (1989-2001), including an internship period at Centro Atómico Bariloche (Argentina) with FAPESP scholarships. Performed post-doctorate research at Ames National Laboratory/Iowa State University (2001-2003) funded by the United States Department of Energy (USDOE) and at Hiroshima University (2003-2008), funded by the Japan Society for Promotion of Science (JSPS). Was Vice-coordinator and coordinator of the UFABC Innovation Agency between 2010-2014. Current member of the Education, Research and Outreach Superior Council (ConsEPE), Center for Natural and Human Sciences Council (ConsCCNH) and Graduate Program in Physics Council (PPG-Fïsica). Founder and leader of the Quantum Materials Group (GMQ) focused in Experimental Condensed Matter Physics, with emphasis on Quantum States of Advanced Materials: design and discovery of novel materials exhibiting strongly correlated electrons, thermoelectricity, magnetism, superconductivity and quantum criticality. Has already contributed over 25 novel materials to science, with diverse properties and application perspectives.
