Faculty Member Profile

Tiago Rodrigues

Profile:Graduated in Pharmacy at University of São Paulo (FCFRP-USP) in 1997, he got his Ph.D. in Biochemistry in the Medical School of Riberão Preto, USP (FMRP-USP) in 2003, where studied mitochondrial bioenergetics and cellular oxidative processes, and how these processes can be modulated by chemicals to understand mechanisms of toxicity or to prospect new pharmacological approaches and drugs. Now, Tiago Rodrigues is Associate Professor at Federal University of ABC (UFABC), where his research interests involves (i) the understanding of the mechanisms of cell death in cancer and neurodegenerative diseases, mainly that involving mitochondria and Bcl-2 family proteins, free radicals and Ca2+ homeostasis; (ii) the study of antioxidants and oxidative processes related to cell death and the development of cosmetics and cosmeceuticals formulations to modulate aging and related diseases, including diabetes; (iii) nanotechnology-based approaches in anticancer and antiaging research. He has active grants from Brazilian funding agencies (FAPESP and CNPq) and also experience with students supervision in all levels. Recently, he founded and it is the actual coordinator of the Nanomedicine Research Unit (NANOMED), which has the aim to enable collaboration among researches distributed in three different areas (Synthesis and characterization of nanostructured systems; Screening of biological activities and mechanisms of action; Computational approaches and in silico studies).
