Faculty Member Profile

Wendel Andrade Alves

Profile:Bachelor in Chemistry in 1999 at Federal University of Juiz de Fora, MG. Masters and PhD in Chemistry in 2001 and 2005, both from University of São Paulo, SP. PhD Sandwich Abroad at the Università degli Studi di Pavia, Italy, in 2004. Post-Doctorate in Physical Chemistry in Electroactive Materials Laboratory at IQ/USP between 2005 and 2006. Visiting Professor at the University of Missouri, Columbia, USA, in 2014. He is currently Associate Professor at Federal University of ABC and Productivity in Research of CNPq (Level 1-D). The Alves´s group has the experience in synthesis and characterization of polymer nanocomposites based on peptide and/or inorganic nanomaterials for immobilization of biomolecules, that permit us to investigate physical and chemical issues of pertinence to energy conversion, and their pharmacological, therapeutic and industrial perspectives. In particular research focuses on the understanding of the chemical architecture - thermodynamic - structure - physical property correlations in complex systems to achieve process and product control using state of the art techniques, which include X-ray small angle scattering on large scale facilities. The goal is to obtain different supramolecular organizations with potential applications in energy/environment (e.g., artificial photosynthesis, solar bioprocess, bio-organic batteries) and healthcare (e.g., amyloid self-assembly, photodynamic therapy, biosensors, wearable bioelectronics).
