Nunzio Marco Torrisi received the Master degree and the Ph.D. in Computer Engineering from the University of Catania, Italy, in 2002 and 2006, respectively. In 2001 he awarded the First place ISA Pratical and Second place ISA Bowl at ISA 2001 International Student Competition, USA. In 2002 he participated to ISA Student Exchange program at SUAI University, St. Petersburg, Russia. In 2004 he founded in Italy TraceIT s.r.l. a private company specialized in food traceability software. Since 2005, he has been a member of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), Technical Committee SC65C, Working Group 12, Functional Safety for Fieldbus. From 2005 to 2008, he was a FAPESP postdoctoral scholar at University of São Paulo (USP), Brazil, with the Nucleus of Advanced Manufacture (NUMA) and the Manufacturing Process Optimization group (OPF), where he was responsible for remote control projects over the KyaTera network. Since January 2009, he has been an associate professor at the Federal University of ABC in São Paulo (UFABC), Brazil, where he is currently teaching Computer Networks and Industrial Informatics. He supervised a chemical engineering postdoctoral in industrial biodiesel production optimization and another in computer science in streaming protocol for monitoring applications. He is orienting three students in computer science master degree and one in engineering of information at UFABC. He registered a Brazilian patent(INPI register number 018070047508) and published his work in international journals as ?IEEE Industrial Electronic Magazine? and ?International Journal of Manufacturing Technologies - Springer?. He reviewed papers for IEEE Industrial Informatics Transaction and Springer Computer and Electronic. He is IEEE and ISA member since 2005 and he was member of OPC Foundation in 2010. Nunzio speaks Italian, English, Portoguese and he is studying Swedish at the SFI school. He is researching at KTH Communication Networks Laboratory (LCN) in cyber-security for industrial protocols over IP networks with the scholarship of the SwB program. His commitment in R&D for computer technologies includes also the development of open standard as the CyberOPC project (www.cyberopc.org) and the strong relation with private industry to provide simple solutions with innovative research. Currently, he is developing with SAAB a research activity on CyberSecurity and the use of SPDY protocol applied to power systems communication system to improve the resilience to network failures of Inter-Control Center Communication (ICCC) reducing the risk of denial of service (DoS) attacks . The project explores the vulnerabilities of the SCADA protocols as OPC, OPC-UA, DNP and IEC 870-5-101 under encrypted tunnels using IPSec. The expected results could be used in order to define a gateway appliance product for process control over public IP networks. This also could permit to plug power systems device, meters and generic IED into the secure gateways placed at the edge of the public network. The data exchanged by that gateways to the remote SCADA will be protected by secure streams multiplexed using scheduling algorithms over other streams processed in the public IP networks.
